Making it big as a hip hop artist in Los Angeles, California is the dream of so many artist.

This sub-genre of music has taken the world by storm, meaning the market is saturated with tons of artists trying to make it big. However, how did it start?

Hip hop first originated in the South Bronx of New York City in the late 1970s. It started out with break dancing and graffiti, and then, eventually, it turned into dancing, rapping, and deejaying.

It became a prominent genre of music in the US with the release of Sugarhill Gang’s song called “Rapper’s Delight” in 1979.

Today, Hip hop has grown to be one of the most popular genres in the music industry. Many listeners believe hip hip now has sub-genres. While mainstream rap music remains edgy with artists dipicting street life and “flexing” their wealth, El Casino's song "Rise" touches on topics that are current realities of oppressed people today.

He feels it's important that artist convey the truths of the minorities and the people of color who suffer from the hands of police brutality, drug use, and poverty, among others. There will always be room for the more typical fun and entertaining songs and "Rise" is the well needed balance.

The hip hop sub-culture has evolved over the years, and part of it's appeal to this is not only the beats, the excellent bars and rhymes, and even the glamour that's often portrayed, but it's often a story of triump and defeating the odds. Including the struggle of its predecessors that paved the way for hip hop and rap artist today to not only express themselves but to also enjoy fulfilling career.
